Sometimes, parenting your child isn’t an option. Whether you’re already raising other children, you feel you’re too young or too old, or are just not ready to parent, adoption can be an excellent option. Find out why.
Considering Adoption?
Adoption can indeed be a hard choice. Finding an adoption coordinator who has your best interests in mind is essential. A reputable adoption agency will never charge you for their services. They should provide complete adoption counseling before, during, and after. Plus, you should never feel pressured into making this choice.
You Should Receive From a Reputable Adoption Coordinator:
• All medical and hospital expenses paid
• All legal expenses paid
• Other pregnancy-related expenses paid as your state allows
• Thorough adoption counseling
• Zero pressure to commit
Many people do not understand adoption. Today’s adoption process allows the expectant woman (or birth mother if she’s already had her baby) to select the couple who will raise her child. She reviews the bios of potential adoptive families and chooses the one that closely matches her wishes for her child.
Types of Adoption Plans
In addition to selecting the adoptive couple, the expectant woman also chooses the adoption plan that best fits her needs. The following are the plans she can choose from:
Open Adoption
The expectant woman and the potential adoptive couple she’s chosen exchange identifying information, like full names, addresses, and phone numbers. They can meet before the baby is born to begin their relationship. Afterward, they establish a Contact Agreement that indicates what type and how much contact they wish to have.
Semi-Open Adoption
This plan is also known as a mediated adoption. The expectant woman or birth mother chooses the adoptive family and can communicate with them. However, the adoption coordinator handles all communication. This plan provides more privacy.
Closed Adoption
Only about 10% of adoptions today are closed. This type of plan offers complete anonymity. You do not exchange identifying information, and the courts seal the original birth certificate.
