What comes to mind when you think about adoption? For many people, it is a painful topic. But creating an adoption plan for your baby when you are not ready to be a parent is actually a wonderful gift that can be rewarding for everyone involved.
Is adoption right for you?
If you are not ready to be a parent, you have the option to create an adoption plan for your baby. You can have a lot of input for who adopts your child and how much you would like to be a part of your child’s life. Being able to stay in contact with your child and their adoptive family is called open adoption. Some benefits of making an adoption plan are:
- You can know that you have lovingly provided a way for your child to be welcomed into a stable family. You are not “giving your baby away.” You are putting into place a plan to give your child a happy life.
- You can still be a part of your child’s life if you want to be.
- If the birth father for your child isn’t supportive of the pregnancy, or if you are facing time in jail or prison, you can still provide a stable home for the child.
